Texans keep Will Fuller at deadline, decline Packers offer – The Athletic

The NFL trade deadline offered the Texans a chance to kickstart their climb out of the hole ex-head coach and general manager Bill O’Brien dug for them, yet they let it pass with no major changes to their roster.

Interim GM Jack Easterby ultimately executed just one deal, sending defensive lineman Eli Ankou to the Cowboys for a seventh-round pick. That’s good value for a waiver claim who never even played in a game for Houston, but the move does little to rebuild the draft capital O’Brien burned through.

There are only two players the Texans could have traded away in order to accomplish that: defensive end J.J. Watt and receiver Will Fuller. The former never seemed available, at least not at a price another team would reasonably consider. And the latter was arguably subject to more trade rumors than any player in the league, yet ultimately stayed put.
