Thanks to the excellent play of quarterback D’Eriq King, the No. 11 Miami Hurricanes found a way to beat NC State, 44-41 on Friday night.
King threw for 430 yards and five touchdowns and ran for 105 yards to lead the Hurricanes to a dramatic come from behind victory in the fourth quarter.
Mike Harley proved to be Miami’s top target in the game, catching eight passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns.
UM’s three other top receivers also stepped up with Mark Pope catching six passes for 97 yards and a touchdown, Dee Wiggins totaling 77 yards and a touchdown on seven catches, and tight end Will Mallory finishing with 78 yards and a touchdown.
Cam’Ron Harris led the running backs with 62 yards on 15 carries.
Defensively, the Hurricanes had a tough day, but UM did tighten in the decisive fourth quarter.
NC State totaled only three points and six yards of offense in the fourth quarter. The Hurricanes forced two three-and-out drives late in the game to give King chances to put together dramatic drives to win the game.
Defensive end Jaelan Phillips led the Hurricanes with ten tackles and a sack.
Cornerback DJ Ivey came down with a key interception late in the fourth quarter to help secure the victory for the Hurricanes.
There wasn’t much defense that was played by either team.
The Hurricanes totaled 30 first downs and racked up 620 yards of offense. Miami converted 7-of-16 third down opportunities.
The Wolfpack finished the game with 410 yards of offense and converted 7-of-12 third down opportunities.
Miami committed 12 penalties for 101 yards.
