Despite missing the entire preseason, Golden State Warriors rookie James Wiseman is reportedly in line to start the team’s season opener against the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday night.

The Athletic’s Anthony Slater reported Tuesday afternoon that Wiseman, who was the second overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, will get the start at center.

“He’s impressed enough in camp and they’re extremely high on his future,” Slater tweeted.

Wiseman played in only three collegiate games at Memphis and missed a large portion of the truncated offseason after testing positive for the coronavirus at the start of training camp.

Steve Kerr did say over the weekend it was only a matter of time before Wiseman became the team’s starting center.

“James is going to be our starting center before too long,” he told reporters. “It might happen Tuesday. But clearly, he is our long-term starting center and when we feel he’s ready for that then we will put him out there and then it’s a matter of minutes and how long he can play. For me as a coach and my staff, it’s let’s give him the experience of seeing the different pictures that are going to be in front of him.”

Warriors-Nets tips off at 4 p.m. PT.
